Polygon (POL), formerly Matic Network, was developed in 2017 by Jaynti Kanani, Sandeep Nailwal and Anurag Arjun. Polygon is an Ethereum token aimed at improving the Ethereum infrastructure and enabling faster and cheaper transactions. Polygon uses a layer-2 scaling solution, thereby promoting the mass adoption of cryptocurrencies by solving scalability issues.
POL is the native token of the network and has replaced the old MATIC token. It plays a central role: it is used to secure the system, is utilised for staking, and serves as a currency for payments within the entire Polygon ecosystem.
